Revitalizing the identity of a cultural monument

Our studio was mandated to design the new identity of the Orchestre Métropolitain and give a new momentum to this Montreal gem.

We first proposed a unifying and striking symbol: a monogram made up of two letters, one anchored in modernity, the other in classical tradition.

The circle, which replaces the letter O in the monogram, became one of the graphic elements that best conveyed the new identity. From season to season, this element is reinvested: first as a window from which different classical musical instruments emerge, or it is replaced by a cluster of particles that interpret, in a hypnotic abstract ballet, the great musical works following their rhythm and intensity.

After installing the new identity for two seasons, we then set about connecting OM with its audience. Putting (literally) in the spotlight the orchestra's artisans - through a photographic style that takes advantage of a very signature chiaroscuro lighting - the studio allows Montrealers to put a face to their greatest classical musicians, Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the lead.

Color is invited for the celebrations of the Orchestra's fortieth season. Like confetti, it punctuates the various communication tools, superimposing itself as much on the large poetic images representing each concert as on the very expressive portraits of the musicians caught on the spot.
